Signs a Cylinder Needs Attention
- Oil at the gland: a wet rod or a puddle under the unit means the rod seal is going.
- Drift: a hoist that creeps down or a ram that won’t hold position points to worn piston seals.
- Lost force: a compactor that won’t pack, or a baler that won’t make a tight bale.
- Scored or pitted rod: Florida humidity pits exposed chrome, and pitting shreds new seals fast.
- Cracked eyes and mounts: the steel around the cylinder fails before the cylinder does.
