How Gainesville Handles Commercial Waste
Inside Gainesville city limits, commercial garbage is collected by private haulers operating under city franchises, not by the city itself. The city’s solid waste ordinance also requires businesses to provide recycling capacity alongside their garbage containers, and apartment properties with commercial collection have to offer recycling too. In practice that means more containers per property, and more cans and compactors that eventually need repair.
The University of Florida drives a lot of that. The student-housing complexes around campus run banks of front-load cans and apartment compactors, and the move-out weeks in spring and summer are hard on them: overloaded lids, bent sleeves, and doors forced shut on a full chamber. Beyond campus, the industrial and commercial areas along NE Waldo Road and around Gainesville Regional Airport, plus the US 441 corridor up through the City of Alachua, keep roll-off trucks and compactors busy year-round.
From Gainesville to Our Ocala Shop
Our shop is about 45 miles south of Gainesville. For most customers the run is I-75 to US 441/301, about an hour each way, so a driver can drop a roll-off box or compactor in the morning and be back in Alachua County by early afternoon. Front-load cans don’t need a driver at all: Gainesville is well inside the 120-mile radius where we pick cans up and deliver them back. We open at 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday, and Friday closes at noon.
