Lakeland & the I-4 Corridor
The City of Lakeland runs its own commercial collection. Its Solid Waste Division services dumpsters and 20-, 30-, and 40-yard roll-offs for businesses inside the city limits, and it will also service customer-owned containers. Private haulers cover much of the rest of Polk County. Between the city fleet, the private haulers, and businesses that own their own boxes, there is a lot of container steel in Lakeland that eventually needs a new floor or door.
Lakeland sits in the middle of the I-4 corridor between Tampa and Orlando, and Polk County has become one of Florida’s biggest distribution areas. Warehouses and grocery distribution along I-4, air cargo at Lakeland Linder International Airport, and the CSX intermodal terminal in Winter Haven all produce cardboard and trash by the trailer load. Those buildings run balers and stationary compactors hard, and they all depend on hydraulics that eventually leak.
Getting Lakeland Equipment to Ocala
Our shop is about 80 miles north of Lakeland, a little under two hours via US 98 and US 301 through Dade City, or by the Turnpike and I-4. Because of that distance, it usually makes sense to drop larger jobs, like a compactor or a group of roll-off boxes, in one trip. Front-load cans are easier. Lakeland is inside our 120-mile pickup radius, so we collect them, repair them, and bring them back. The shop opens at 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday and closes at noon on Friday.
